XMR Payment IDs Do Not Guarantee Bridge Deposit Credit
Monero payment IDs can help a service match an XMR deposit to an account, but an XMR bridge can credit funds only if its deposit flow supports that identifier.

Monero payment IDs let a receiving service match an XMR transfer to an account or order; Monero Docs describe the compact ID as eight bytes carried in an integrated address. For the swap flow, see how an XMR bridge swap works; the identifier matters only if the deposit instructions support it.
How does a Monero payment ID identify a deposit?
Monero Docs say integrated addresses combine a recipient address with a compact payment ID, which is encrypted in the transaction. The recipient can use it to distinguish payments, while outside observers cannot read the ID from the transaction.
That makes an ID a routing label for the receiving service, not proof that a bridge has credited a deposit. The bridge must associate the supplied address and any accepted ID with the customer’s order, then detect the incoming XMR.
What should you check before sending XMR?
Follow the bridge’s current deposit instructions exactly. Monero Docs distinguish integrated addresses, which include a payment ID, from subaddresses, which can also help recipients separate incoming payments.
- Check whether the deposit address is integrated or a subaddress.
- Use a payment ID only if the bridge explicitly requests or supports one.
- Copy the complete address and identifier from the same deposit request.
- Confirm the required network and amount in the bridge’s own instructions.
Monero Docs recommend integrated addresses for automated merchants and exchanges, and subaddresses for individual users. For a bridge, the useful option is the one its deposit flow supports: sending to the right wallet without the matching identifier may leave the service unable to attribute the payment automatically.
What happens if the bridge cannot match the ID?
The receiving service may need to investigate the transfer manually, and its process depends on its own policies. Monero’s wallet RPC documentation describes looking up incoming payments by payment ID, but that wallet capability does not establish that a particular bridge uses it.
After sending, use the bridge’s deposit status or support process if the payment remains unmatched. Whether a specific XMR bridge accepts integrated addresses, separate subaddresses, or payment IDs must be confirmed in its deposit instructions; Monero’s identifier alone does not confirm credit.
